Zillow Removes Phone Numbers From Free Rental Listings

Last week, Zillow rolled out a change to how contact information appears on rental listings.

Direct, non-tracking phone numbers no longer display on free rental listing pages on Zillow. Renters viewing those listings can still request info by pressing the “Book Tour” or “Apply Now” buttons, but a phone number will not appear on the listing itself.

This is a display-side update on Zillow that affects all free listings, even if the property is being sent to Zillow through a listing feed.

Free listings now show the brokerage name but no phone number. Renters can only reach you through the Book Tour or Apply Now buttons.

Which listings still show a phone number

Listings backed by a paid Zillow contract are not affected. That includes:

  • Single-family listings syndicated through a Zillow Feed Connect contract

  • Listings under a multifamily advertising contract

  • Premium upgraded listings in Zillow Rental Manager

Paid listings typically display a Zillow-issued routing number, which forwards calls to the property's real line and helps Zillow attribute lead activity.

What this means for property managers

If you've noticed fewer direct calls or a phone number missing from your Zillow listing, no action is needed on the feed side — your listing feed data is being delivered correctly.

For teams that rely heavily on phone leads from Zillow, it's worth taking a fresh look at whether a paid Zillow contract makes sense for your portfolio.
