Product Updates: Week 34

RentEngine’s MCP now lets you connect to your AI assistant. Link your account to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, or Claude Code, then ask it to pull comps, analyze an applicant's income, schedule a showing, generate a lockbox code, and more, all in plain English. You can now take applications and screen renters before a specific unit is available, log a showing that happened outside RentEngine, and let agent prospects skip location verification on self-guided showings.

RentEngine MCP

Connect RentEngine to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code & Claude Code

Your leasing data now works directly with your AI assistant. The RentEngine MCP is a secure connection between your RentEngine account and tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, and Claude Code. Once it is connected, you can ask questions in plain English and have the assistant read your data and take action for you.

Open the Developer Portal, go to the AI Agent MCP tab, and pick your assistant from the dropdown: Claude, Cursor, VS Code, ChatGPT, or Claude Code. Copy your Server URL and OAuth Client ID into the assistant, sign in to RentEngine, and allow access.

From there you can ask questions about your data and have the assistant take action for you. We wrote up the full setup and a dozen use cases, including one comps prompt that has become a team favorite, in the guide below.

Rental applications

Take applications and screen renters before a specific unit is available

You can now take a generic application that is not tied to a specific unit. It links to your company account instead, so you can prescreen and approve a renter before a matching home is on the market, then use that application once one opens up.

There are two ways to share it. Give out a template's generic application link from the Rental Application Templates page, or use your company application link from onboarding, where the prospect can pick a specific home or choose "Generic Application (no specific unit)". A generic application uses your Default Application Template.

Showings

Log a showing that happened outside RentEngine

A new “Log Completed Showing” action in the Command Center Action Menu lets you record a showing that already happened, like a last-minute one arranged outside RentEngine.

Set the past date and time, the showing type, and the outcome: application sent, still deciding, or not interested. The assigned agent field appears when you choose an accompanied showing. You can also capture what the prospect liked, what they disliked, and any maintenance issues noted.

It creates a real entry in your showings table and does not message the prospect. You cannot log a showing at the same time as an existing one, and any active showing keeps running through its normal lifecycle.

Where to find it: Command Center > Take Action > Log Completed Showing.

Let agent prospects skip location verification on self-guided showings

A new setting in Fraud Guard lets a prospect registered as an agent pull the lockbox code and start a self-guided showing without sharing their location. It skips the geofence and the spoof and far-away checks for that agent only.

Where to find it: your prescreening template > Fraud Guard > Location & GPS > Allow agents to bypass location verification.
