Do you run credit, criminal, and eviction checks?
Yes — full credit, criminal, and eviction screening. The criminal search runs nationally, then checks each county the applicant has lived in based on their credit report. For the counties that don't digitize their court records (large parts of Mississippi and New Mexico, among others), a court runner pulls the records in person, so you cast the widest possible net.

How do you verify income?
Applicants connect their bank account, link their payroll provider, or upload income documents directly. Every document runs through OCR that extracts pay period, gross and net pay, and income consistency, then cross-references it against the applicant's personal information. If a PDF shows signs of forgery or tampering, RentEngine flags the risk level and shows your team exactly where the problem is in the document.
How do you collect and verify landlord and employer references?
The applicant provides contact details for past landlords and employers. RentEngine reaches out by both text and email and follows up persistently until the reference is complete — your team never sends a message. Each completed reference is two-factor verified so you know it's a real contact, not a friend or coworker.
Do you do ID verification?
Yes. The applicant takes a live selfie (no uploads — it's captured through the front-facing camera) and submits their ID, which RentEngine verifies front and back.
